The Bulldog Agency is owned and operated by Julian Hills. A London native raised in Southern California, he earned his B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing from UCLA. After several years working in magazine design and layout under Esquire emeritus Harold Hayes, Julian embarked on a career in fine art. During this time, supporting himself with his painting, he was invited by a friend to design movie posters – and he dove right in. Entertainment advertising has been his life ever since. In 1994 he took the helm of Universal Pictures’ in-house print advertising team, creating campaigns for many films including Babe, Liar Liar, Happy Gilmore, The Frighteners, and Casino. Six years later he founded the print division of The Ant Farm, creating and directing award-winning campaigns for a wide range of properties (motion picture, stage, television, games, and home entertainment) while confirming his reputation as one of the most highly regarded creative minds in entertainment advertising. He created the brand identities for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Shrek franchise and Madagascar during this time. More recently, he founded The Bulldog Agency where he has created print campaigns and branding for The Hobbit franchise, The Lego Movie, Storks, Mortal Engines, The Beatles: Get Back, Don't Worry Darling, M. Night Shyamalan's Trap and many others. He has taught design and typography at UCLA, continues to paint, and plays with his band at the Viper Room every once in awhile.
